Garnett calls itself the City of Two Lakes, and that’s about the only thing resembling a landmark a Family Time Moving crew passes between Osawatomie and the Anderson County line — the rest is open farmland and two-lane highway. Garnett itself holds the county courthouse, a compact downtown, and most of the in-town moves; Colony and Kincaid are smaller still, a scatter of farmhouses and grain elevators more than a proper downtown. Anderson County jobs run the same rate structure as anything closer to Osawatomie — the extra twenty or so minutes of highway doesn’t show up as a line item, and neither does a long farm driveway once the crew has walked it.
