One Family, Four Trucks: Osawatomie Movers Since 2009

Every truck still rolls out of the building Dale and Carol put up off Old Kansas City Road, and Dale Hutchins still looks over the numbers on every quote himself — whether the job is three miles from downtown Osawatomie or clear out across Miami County and the surrounding Kansas countryside. Call during the day and it is usually Carol who picks up, and Tyler is the one walking your house to size the crew.

Your ZIPs go straight to Carol at our office off Old Kansas City Road — read by a real person, never a broker, and used only to price your Osawatomie move.

Family Time Moving isn’t a name a marketing agency landed on — it’s the actual point of the company. The family who quotes your move is the family who carries your furniture out the door, every single job.

Ten Years Before the First Truck

Dale Hutchins grew up on his family’s land off Old Kansas City Road, hauling hay and running equipment before he ever backed a moving truck up to somebody’s porch. For ten years he ran odd-hauling jobs and small local moves out of a borrowed flatbed, learning every gravel lane in Miami County long before there was a company name to put on a door.

One Truck, 2009

Dale started Family Time Moving in 2009 with his wife Carol and a single truck, on a rule that still runs the business: the people who quote your move are the same people who load it. No dispatcher, no rotating labor pool.

The Family on the Crew

  • Carol Hutchins has run the office since day one — she still answers the phone herself most days.
  • Tyler Hutchins, Dale and Carol’s son, joined in 2017 and walks most homes in person before writing a number.
  • Cole Whitfield came aboard in 2013, grew up two farms down from the Hutchins place, and leads crews through Osawatomie, Paola, and Louisburg — family after this many years.
  • Megan Hutchins, Dale and Carol’s daughter, joined in 2019 and runs the Ottawa/Garnett route plus every long-distance job.

Still Working Out of Old Kansas City Road

Four trucks now instead of one, but the address hasn’t moved and neither has the rule. See where we run, read what customers say, or get a number in writing.

How It Actually Started

Ten Years On A Borrowed Flatbed Before Dale Ever Called It A Company

Dale Hutchins grew up on his family’s land off Old Kansas City Road, hauling hay bales and running equipment years before he ever got behind a moving truck. For the better part of a decade he took odd-hauling jobs and small local moves out of a borrowed flatbed, doing it on the side while he figured out whether Miami County actually needed a real moving company or just another guy with a trailer. In 2009 he and his wife Carol put that question to rest, buying one truck and setting a single rule for how the business would run: whoever quotes your move is the same person carrying your couch out the door, every time.

The Same Four People, Every Job

Dale, Carol, their son Tyler, and their daughter Megan all still work the business day to day, and crew chief Cole Whitfield has run jobs alongside the family for thirteen years — long enough that nobody treats him any differently than a Hutchins. There is no call center answering your first call and no rotating bench of day-labor names.

Gravel Lanes Are Just Tuesday

A quarter-mile driveway that turns to mud after a spring rain, a two-lane highway backed up behind a combine during harvest, a farmhouse with no house number visible from the road — this crew has been working those conditions since long before there was a company name on the truck.

Pricing Written Down, Not Guessed At The Door

Tyler walks most homes in person instead of quoting off a phone call, and the number he gives you is the number Dale and Carol expect to collect — not a placeholder that grows once the truck is loaded.

Built To Stay Small On Purpose

Four trucks, nine people, one address off Old Kansas City Road — Dale has had chances to franchise or bring in outside crews over sixteen years and turned them down every time, because the point was never to outgrow the people who started it.

One Small Crew, The Same Rating Wherever You Look

A farmhouse outside Mound City, a duplex in Spring Hill, a house right here in Osawatomie — folks tend to leave a review on whatever site they already had open that day, and the score barely moves between them.

One Phone Call Gets You Dale Or Carol, Not A Call Center

Tyler checks the job against the schedule board, writes up the number with the coverage details spelled out, and Dale or Carol looks it over before it lands in your inbox. Most families hear back the same day.
